Specifications of the Holographic Book Project
Each artist will be responsible for the creation of artwork for the page that contains their holographic work, as well as the opposing page.
The pages of the book will be 30 X45 cm.
The hologram will be 20 X 30 cm.
The placement of the hologram within the two pages is left under the artist’s authority.
The hologram will be either white light transmission hologram, or an achromatic hologram. If you are not sure of the properties of either hologram, please refer to our FAQ, and Admissions page for more details. Keep in mind that part of the Holographic Book Project’s mandate is to provide an opportunity for artists who are not familiar with this medium, so if you feel over whelmed, send us an email with your ideas, and, or concerns .
One of the criteria for selecting proposals will be how well the hologram is integrated with conventional artwork. The proposal should show photographic artwork, sketches, drawings or other artworks that can be reproduced for printing purposes. Where proposals are not expected to adhere to a theme, this project is very much about the juxtaposition between traditional art making practices, in this case, hand-bound limited edition books, with new emerging technologies, holograms.
The Holographic Book Project will make every attempt to maintain archival standards. We intend on using 300-year ink and archival photo paper in the printing as well as archival processing of the holograms.
We acknowledge some artists interested in the project are having difficulty with the submission process. As a means to encourage artists, an animation was designed to helps artist understand the properties of transmission holograms. This will also allow artists to see a blueprint of what the book will look like.
